Private tours often come with awkward maths. You want to sell the experience as a flat rate for a couple or small group, but what happens when someone wants to bring a few extra friends?
Charge the same? Add a second booking? Try to explain custom pricing over email?
With quantity-based pricing, you don’t need to compromise. You can now define exactly what’s included and how much each additional person costs, right in your product setup.
It’s simple. Flexible. And finally built for the real world of private tours.
What it is:
Quantity-based pricing lets you set a base price that includes a certain number of guests, and then charge a fixed amount for each extra person after that.
Example:
- Base price: €300 (includes up to 2 guests)
- Additional guests: €80 per person
So if a couple books, it’s €300. If a group of five books, the price becomes €300 + (€80 x 3) = €540.
The guest sees it clearly at checkout. You get a booking that reflects the true cost of delivery.
Why this matters
This pricing model is common in industries like chauffeur services, villa rentals, and private chefs, but it hasn’t always been easy to apply to tours and activities.
Until now, many operators have either:
- Hid the logic in the fine print
- Used workarounds (e.g. product variants, manual updates)
- Took the hit when groups turned up larger than expected
Quantity-based pricing fixes that by building the logic directly into your booking flow.
When to use it:
- Private tours with flexible group sizes
- Small-group experiences that include a guide or vehicle
- Tours where your cost increases per person (e.g. entry tickets, food, equipment)
Real-world example:
One operator offering guided experiences across multiple European cities uses this pricing model for their private tours. It allows them to:
- Keep their base pricing competitive for couples or small groups
- Offer flexibility when guests want to add more people
- Protect their margins as group sizes increase
